Today I'm going to explain how I made my Asuna cosplay~ This is not really a tutorial but I hope I can help who's going to sew it. This was my first cosplay and if it's your first time sewing something, good luck! And keep calm because it really isn't that complicated as it seems. OH by the way, I made this cosplay last year and my phone's camera wasn't the best, so I'm sorry for the quality of the work in progress pictures! And English is not my first language so yes, my English is not perfect and I probably will commit a few mistakes. Now let's move to the explanation part:
This was probably the easiest part of the cosplay, it's just a simple box pleated skirt and it's really easy to make. You will only need the red fabric and the white bias tape. The red fabric can be any fabric, but please don't get something shiny like satin. In my opinion it ruins the quality of the cosplay and it looks terrible if you don't iron it properly. My pleats have 10 cm each and I put a button on the back of it instead of a zipper. If you don't know how to sew a pleated skirt, there's really good tutorial
HERE.
White Skirt
For the white skirt, all you have to do is to sew a half hoop skirt and add a white fabric tape to the edges to make it fit on your waist, add a button to hold it.
Stockings
The perfect fabric for her stockings is spandex, ( if you're from Brazil I'd recommend Malha, because I couldn't find spandex here ) you will have to measure your legs and see how much of it you will need. Begin measuring it from your ankles to a few centimeters above your knees ( around 20 cm / it depends on your height ). Cut the fabric plus the seem allowance and pin it to your leg like this:
BE CAREFUL PLEASE!
Then all you have to do is to sew ( zigzag function would be the best ) in the same line as the pins are. For the red lines, I got a satin tape and then I sew it by hand to the edges of the stocking! And if you're like " but Alice, I can't sew by hand perfectly "
*cough*Neither do I*cough*
OHHH Don't forget to paint the symbol in her stockings. Here's a close up of it:
Now you're done!
tip #1 : if the stocking keeps falling from your leg, sew it to a skin tone pantyhose! It will solve the problem
Shoes
The shoes I found for her in cosplay stores are kinda expensive, so I decided to get plastic white boots [ those nurse boots / safety boots would be perfect too ] and add the little armor to it! For the armor all you need is super glue, white glue, craft foam and silver paint. Draw your armor on the craft foam, cut it and then apply a solution of white glue + water all over the armor. You have to do this ALWAYS before painting craft foam.
Armor
Armor??? More like the most annoying part of the whole cosplay. I tried to make this armor 4 times. FOUR TIMES. can you believe it? The first three attempts were a failure, but the last one made me smile for like a long time and I even thought about making an YouTube tutorial for it. ( who knows~ MAYBE I WILL DO IT IN THE FUTURE AHHHH ) So, I used the same stuff that I used for my ankle armor. Craft foam is like the love of my life. It's the perfect thing to work with. It's cheap and you can find it anywhere ; w ;
Start making the armor by measuring your chest size, draw a line on the craft foam with the same amount of cm as your chest ( from the back to the front ) and then add around 20 cm more, so you can put the Velcro in the back of it. Draw the details to the edges of if ( the zigzag on the top without that part where the symbols are ). Then draw that another part with those little symbols in other part of the craft foam. Cut everything, apply the solution of water + white glue to it, wait a few hours and then paint it. Glue that little piece to the armor like this:
My armor is a little dirty right now and I ruined a few parts of it using pins, so I'm going to make a tutorial just for it soon! Don't forget to check it in a few days ; u ; I will explain how I made it with more details
Gloves
I LOVED MAKING THOSE GLOVES. They are really cute and really easy to make. You have to make the base of it just like you made the stockings. They are just arms stockings, okay? XD don't forget to let a little part of fabric in the edges of it so you can make that cute small zigzag that she has in her glove
Sew it by hand with a red thread and the same satin tape that you used to your stocking like this :
Then cut the white part of fabric remaining, add a little piece of lace to the edges of it and you're done!
Shirt
The main part of the cosplay! And I want to state here that I didn't do it only by myself. It was made by my grandma and I. I made patterns and she sewed the cosplay for me. I don't have the patterns anymore but here's how the front and back of my cosplay looks like:
When you're done with the base of the shirt, all you have to do is to sew the red satin tape to the edges of the shirt, and above it, sew a red thread. It will look like this:
The zipper isn't in the back of the cosplay, it's in the middle of the front. And then you have to sew something like a rectangle with round edges/triangle edges to hide it. Sew that " rectangle " to the cosplay only in half of it. And put buttons on the other part, so you can have access to the zipper.
When you're done, paint the details:
arm hangs / arm bands / weird thing on her arms / ??????
This part of the cosplay is really easy to make, it seems hard, but it's not. You have to draw something like this on the red fabric:
Cut it, and check if it fits on your arms.
When it does, sew a yellow bias tape around it, it can be a gold one too, but I couldn't find a gold one here. It will look like this:
then you're done! But dont forget to sew the back of it to your shirt!
Wig
Her wig is something confusing. I have two wigs for her, a light brown one and an orange brown one. I went to the con with the brown and this girl came up to me and told me that Asuna's hair isn't brown and that I was running the character and that made me really sad. I sold that wig and I got an orange one. The new wig is amazing, the color is perfect and it's quality is wOAH but I still feel bad about the brown wig and I want to say that if you want to wear a light brown wig with this cosplay, DO IT. THIS IS YOUR COSPLAY, AND THE MAIN IDEA OF IT, IS TO MAKE YOU HAVE FUN. So yeah XD THATS IT. This is my orange brown wig:
OH BEFORE I FORGET, the tutorial for her sword will be posted here in a few days okay?? Come back to my blog soon and you will probably find it!
